Stravinsky: L'Histoire du Soldat
de Falla: Master Pedro's Puppet Show
The 2010 Castleton Festival closes with two unique musical works in a double-bill performance.
Igor Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat ("Soldier's Tale") tells the story of a Russian soldier who sells his violin to the devil in order to tell the future. Based on a famed Russian folk tale, Stravinsky's retelling showcases a chamber ensemble of musicians with naration and spoken dialogue. Resident Stage Director, William Kerley, brings this magical tale to life in a new innovative staging with English text.
Manuel de Falla's Master Pedro's Puppet Show is a whimsical work drawn from Cervantes' "Don Quixote." Performed in Spanish and featuring innovative puppetry design by New York City's "The Puppet Kitchen."
